nature morte vivante…

apple_portrait_0057

I shot these two still lives in a dark corner of our outhouse on a recent day when the skies were overcast and grey. This calm north light, without the intrusion of  brilliant slashes of razor sharp sunlight, allowed the camera to capture the infinity of tiny nuances of colour which are otherwise lost in a patchwork of highlights and shadows. This simple calmness is my ideal and these two still lives are to be new additions to the Print Store.

  1. Wow those are gorgeous, you would never know that it was grey and dismal the fruit is bright and beautiful.

  2. You have an outhouse/toilet ? Or is that British for a house/shed that’s outside?

Beautiful, did you use artificial lights?

  4. How wonderful, Roger. The cool light can offer such a fantastic, natural background to make these truly stand tall on their own:)

Stunning. Can’t believe they were shot in such a dark corner. I’m glad I saw this post – gives me reason to take that tripod more often so I can use longer shutter speeds.

Perhaps it is my ‘vivid’ imagination but the pieces of fruit almost give a three dimensional effect promising to walk off the page right into one’s hand . . . . you must be pleased . . .

  9. I’m putting a tripod on my xmas list. And I have to go look at my settings and find the RAW. You are making me miss the natural light we’ve lost already with the impending doom of winter. It is so dark now so early.

  10. Just like a painting. Beautiful

  11. Amanda says:

That is some seriously beautiful fruit. It’s amazing the way you capture things sometimes.

  12. Very nice, my friend. You are indeed a very fucking talented man! 🙂

You’ve got a real knack for this stuff, Roger. I know you’re retired but I bet you could earn a little extra income sharing what you know 😀

  14. Michelle says:

Gorgeous, Roger. How I wish I had more wall space in my house…

  15. In these dark days of winter we have to shoot where the light is often times…sheds, front or back porches, bathroom windows…these are such lovely shots.

  16. Last week I brought an apple in to paint for art class and loved it! The colors I’m beginning to see in nature and all around me is so wonderful! Beautiful photos!!

  17. Rob Bennett says:

    Very lovely….as always
