I shot these two still lives in a dark corner of our outhouse on a recent day when the skies were overcast and grey. This calm north light, without the intrusion of brilliant slashes of razor sharp sunlight, allowed the camera to capture the infinity of tiny nuances of colour which are otherwise lost in a patchwork of highlights and shadows. This simple calmness is my ideal and these two still lives are to be new additions to the Print Store.
Wow those are gorgeous, you would never know that it was grey and dismal the fruit is bright and beautiful.
It’s great light for photography…it’s just exposing it correctly..
You have an outhouse/toilet ? Or is that British for a house/shed that’s outside?
Dependance is the word we’re looking for! Wood shed, wine shed, cat’s house, lavatory…the whole shooting match..small but perfectly formed:)
Beautiful, did you use artificial lights?
Just daylight..
How wonderful, Roger. The cool light can offer such a fantastic, natural background to make these truly stand tall on their own:)
I’m very pleased with these images…thanks for that:)
Gorgeous. >
Many thanks:)
Love the apple!.. c

Thanks,Celi:)
Stunning. Can’t believe they were shot in such a dark corner. I’m glad I saw this post – gives me reason to take that tripod more often so I can use longer shutter speeds.
…..or shoot RAW on a higher ISO…that works too:)
Thanks for the tip, Roger.
🙂
Perhaps it is my ‘vivid’ imagination but the pieces of fruit almost give a three dimensional effect promising to walk off the page right into one’s hand . . . . you must be pleased . . .
I’m delighted….the light was perfect…
So simple yet beautiful
Flora
Thank you, Flora:)
I’m putting a tripod on my xmas list. And I have to go look at my settings and find the RAW. You are making me miss the natural light we’ve lost already with the impending doom of winter. It is so dark now so early.
Finding the RAW setting will depend on the sort of camera that you have. You will also need a RAW converter program like Adobe Lightroom.
Off to do a bit of research. Thanks. 😊
Good luck…there’s a very good programme called Capture One Express but it appears to have been changed to Capture One Express (Sony) which suggests that it now only works with Sony cameras. Check it out on a Phase One site who are the people that make Capture One software.
Thank you! 🙂
Just like a painting. Beautiful
Many thanks for that:)
That is some seriously beautiful fruit. It’s amazing the way you capture things sometimes.
What’s strange is that the fruit was incredibly ordinary….it’s light that changes everything..
Very nice, my friend. You are indeed a very fucking talented man! 🙂
You can’t say fairer than that:)
🙂
You’ve got a real knack for this stuff, Roger. I know you’re retired but I bet you could earn a little extra income sharing what you know 😀
Or I could just give money directly to the French Government…:)
Gorgeous, Roger. How I wish I had more wall space in my house…
Me too:)
In these dark days of winter we have to shoot where the light is often times…sheds, front or back porches, bathroom windows…these are such lovely shots.
All houses should be built with a north facing studio:)
Last week I brought an apple in to paint for art class and loved it! The colors I’m beginning to see in nature and all around me is so wonderful! Beautiful photos!!
Lovely things to draw or paint…impossible variety of colours in nature:)
Very lovely….as always
Cheers, Rob…that’s means a lot…..
