I felt like I was Roger Hammerstein as I walked along the forest paths this morning. There was a bright golden haze on the meadow, and the cattle were standing like statues but unfortunately the corn wouldn’t reach up to an elephant’s dick, let alone his eye. The reasons that I am wandering, light headed, along forest paths in the early morning are twofold. Both are black, with curly hair with a penchant for putting their nose in other creatures’ business. I suppose the Marquis de Sade is the only human, that I am aware of, who is well documented for doing the same, but I wouldn’t care to go for a walk in the woods with him. It just came to mind that Gilles de Rais, better known as Blue Beard, a psychopath and sodomist of this parish some 600 years ago would have enjoyed sniffing some excrement with the poodles – how aptly named they are. Wolf hound, poodle: they do what it says on the box. Our two poodle guests have had the effect of getting me out walking, early in the morning. It gives me such pleasure that I don’t know why I don’t do it every day. I do know why I don’t do it every day: it’s because the idea can be better than the fact. As in the gestalt view, there is the illusion that the whole is other than the sum of its parts. I often ponder how good the walk would be from a prone position and in semi consciousness. I’ve had many a good walk that way….one slip on the keyboard could have changed that sentence for the worse. Today is the last walk in the current series. It’s been real, doggies, but there lies the problem.
It’s been real….

Those poodles always remind me of Cymbeline and Vincent Price in Theatre of Blood – that’s probably close to Blue Beard 😉
I had to google that. It’s certainly given me an idea for lunch.
ROFL 😉
The poodles seem to enjoy the scenery. I am jealous of them.
They love walking in the forest..they’re cool little dogs:)
Well, meaning only the best [hmmph 🙂 !] – personally I feel ’tis a pity your four-legged exercise-needing pooches are away: you KNOW deep down how good those walks have been for you . . . . .:D !
Only too well:)
I don’t take our dogs walking often enough, even if I like the thought of doing it!
It’s easy to find excuses, isn’t it?
If you’re really unlucky, you meet little old ladies who are walking their dogs too, and try to get you involved in a conversation about the dog’s health problems.
I just hope I’m not that unlucky:)
A walk in the woods can be very peaceful as long as the dogs don’t spot an animal along the way.
That’s the worst….although a cyclist can make for an interesting time:)
