The oven is dead, long live the oven. In the words of Ambrosiana -” that puts the cherry on the cake” – a strangely inappropriate phrase as making a cake is not on the cards at the moment, and also a rather unfair use of the phrase that I talked her out of using on her own post last night. It appears all is fair in blog and war. I use the word “oven” advisedly as when Jenny and I were nervously saying to each other that “something is wrong with the cooker”, Ambrosiana thought they we were speaking of a malady that had befallen one of our non existent kitchen staff. The Atlantic Ocean still creates a problem in the vernacular. On account of our dead cooker I am having to rethink the next two days’ menus so that they consist solely of dishes that are cooked on the hob. The big money is on skate wings with black butter and capers which is a favourite of mine, but which will be making its debut at La Moussiere tonight. So break a leg, skate wing!
